Departure from Tirana: 07:00 AM
After we gather and get into the vehicles, we start our journey towards the village of Herraj, which is located on the western slope of Mount Gamti and the Bovilla Lake.
The entire drive from Tirana to Herraj takes about 1:30 to 2 hours, and we are expected to arrive around 09:00 AM.
After parking the vehicles, we begin the hiking 🥾 towards Mount Gamti to reach its peak.
The entire hike is carefully guided with frequent stops due to the rocky terrain and the steep, challenging, breathtaking, and very unique route.
In no more than 4 hours of hiking (depending on the group and the number of breaks), we will reach the summit of Gamti.
Maja e Gamtit offers a stunning view, with Bovilla Lake appearing in the background on the eastern side of the mountain.
To the north, we clearly see Qafë-Shtamë National Park, and to the south, Dajti National Park.
The whole experience is indescribable and full of life.
We reach the peak around 13:00 (1:00 PM).
We’ll then prepare for lunch (the food will be cooked on-site as a barbecue).
Next, we set up the camping area, and prepare dinner outdoors again, with grilled food cooked on hot embers.
The tents will be positioned in a way that allows us to watch the sunset as it sinks into the horizon, and later witness the sunrise in the early morning as it powerfully rises over Lake Bovilla—moments that leave you speechless.
In the morning, we’ll wake up and have a light breakfast, then begin our return hike back to where we parked the vehicles.
We expect to arrive at the vehicles around 11:00 AM,
then drive back to Tirana, arriving around 13:30 (1:30 PM).
