Service Description

Mali me Gropa is one of Albania's rare karst phenomena and one of the most unique in Europe, both in size and extent. The mountain gets its name from its upper surface, which is dotted with karstic pits formed during the Ice Age by the dissolution of limestone. This mountain also serves as the source of several streams that flow through the Tirana district, including the Selita spring. Its highest point reaches 1,847 meters, known as the Peak of Mcek (also known as Micek). Our camping adventure begins just beyond the village of ShenMeri (St. Meri) at about 900 meters above sea level. From there, we’ll embark on a steady uphill hike to our first stop at an old shepherd’s hut, where we’ll gain the initial 700 meters of elevation. Here, we’ll set up our campsite for the night. Those who wish can take time to rest, explore the surrounding area, or simply enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere. For those eager to reach the summit, the hike continues with an additional 300 meters of elevation gain, bringing the total elevation to 900 meters. The entire hike spans 12 kilometers and offers a mix of soft and rocky terrain. The journey to the summit will take approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, rewarding you with breathtaking views from the top. After returning to the campsite, we'll gather around a campfire, sharing stories and enjoying the tranquility of the mountain under a starry sky. The next morning, we’ll wake up to the crisp mountain air, enjoy breakfast, and then pack up our gear. The descent will take about 2 hours, and as we make our way back, you’ll have time to reflect on the incredible experience of hiking and camping on one of Albania’s most unique mountains. This camping adventure offers not only stunning views and challenging terrain but also the chance to connect deeply with nature in the serene setting of Mali me Gropa.
